CranioSacral Therapy CranioSacral Therapy or CST was developed by osteopathic physician John E. Upledger, D.O., O.M.M., in the 1970's. It is based on the theories of William Sutherland, D.O. (an osteopath from the early 1900's); Dr. Upledger's research at Michigan State University (1975-83); and extensive clinical application. CST is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the function of the CranioSacral system the physiological body system comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. CST enhances the bodys natural healing processes to improve the operation of the central nervous system, dissipate the negative effects of stress, enhance health and strengthen resistance to disease. The method generally requires only five grams of pressure the equivalent weight of a nickel to test for restrictions in various parts of the craniosacral system.
