The Intensive Program

What is an intensive?

As the name implies, this is a concentrated though short duration of therapy. During an intensive, a master therapist and skilled clinicians work with your child for two hours (110 minutes treatment, 10 minutes consult) sessions each day for five days. Over this period your child ‘s ability to develop and process sensory information will increase.

What can parent expect?

As individuals we process change of any kind according to our unique internal programming. Your child has their own special process based on their life experience and personality.

Parents who participate in this therapy modality can expect noticeable improvements in the following areas:

  • Organizational Behavior
  • Postural And Motor Control
  • Focusing Skills And Attention Span
  • Sleeping And Eating Patterns
  • Spatial And Time Awareness
  • Social Skills
  • Tactile Defensiveness
  • Self Esteem
  • Gross Motor Skills
  • Bilateral Motor Coordination

Additionally there is consultation and follow up activities provided for the family to support the continued success of their child.

How do Children react to this "Intensive"?

Keeping in mind the individuality of each child,   children normally enjoy the activities initially. Changes may not be observable though they are occurring. Usually by the third day there are noticeable changes as the nervous system reorganizes. A child may seem "out of sorts", "hyper," emotional, or perhaps lethargic, as they feel the changes within themselves. The last sessions are normally enjoyable as the child has adjusted to the changes and has organized them internally.

What are the techniques used?

The program that each child has is variable to the unique needs of their system, and their emotional and physical state on any given day.  All techniques used by therapists are listed and briefly described on our services page.   For those wishing more detailed information please contact our office by phone or email.
